Two people standing in front of a display of wooden city skyline signs and jewelry, at a booth labeled "Board & Measure." they are smiling, with the woman resting her hand on the man's arm.

About us

Board & Measure is a Deaf- and CODA-founded small business rooted in culture, craftsmanship, and community. We design and handcraft ASL-inspired pieces from wood and acrylic—products that celebrate identity, language, and the beauty of sign.

Our story began at home. We wanted our son, Elijah, to grow up surrounded by items that reflected Deaf culture and ASL. What started as making meaningful pieces for our own family quickly turned into something bigger, encouraged by friends and community who saw the need for representation like this.

Led by Mark & Emily Jo, Board & Measure is deeply connected to the Deaf community. Every product we create is shaped by lived experience, intention, and pride—designed to resonate with Deaf individuals, CODAs, families, and ASL enthusiasts, while also inviting others to learn and appreciate the culture.

From ASL wall art to educational pieces like ASL ABC puzzles, our products are more than décor—they’re conversation starters, learning tools, and symbols of belonging.

Our mission is simple: to promote ASL, honor Deaf culture, and create meaningful connections through handcrafted art.

Whether you’re Deaf, CODA, a parent, or someone drawn to language and culture, we’re glad you’re here. Welcome to Board & Measure.
